Mineral Survey Plat

Below is a copy of the Mineral Survey Plat for the Union Pacific Lode Mining Claim, Big Cottonwood Mining District, Mineral District #5, Mineral Survey #46, Lot #82. The Survey dated October 13, 1877, and accepted by the U.S. Surveyor's Office on November 24, 1877. The original claim was 100 feet wide, and 1400 feet long, running South-West to North-East and encompassing 3.214 acres of ground. It lies just north of the Reed & Benson mine on the Reed & Benson Ridge.

The Plat shows the discovery marker near the center of the claim just west of the Reed & Benson ridge. At the time of the survey, the Union Pacific Claim was being worked by one shaft and one tunnel, the shaft 25 feet deep and the tunnel 50 feet long. The exact dimensions of any of these workings at the time of the survey are not known.

No mention is made of cabins or structures at the site on the survey plat.
